About Kanika Nagpal
Kanika Nagpal has been working with the interior parts of her home with its existential importance; the factory that has come to be part of the language of her work. Starting with random sketches of her family members at my father’s factory, she captured a variety of wall marks created by machine. When not operating, those very wall marks created the sound of the working machine in her head finding a way into a prominent part of her consciousness. She would use soil as a base of her work to create the feeling of the factory. During the lockdown, she could neither hear the sound nor feel the vibrations of the machines that would otherwise indicate that the factory was open. Documenting the video and sounds of her time with family and overlapping it with the sounds of the factory, she realized how much of a role the factory played in her life. She is now shaping her language of art with her future body of work integrating the significance of sound and metal scrap.
