About Kandi Narsimlu
Born on 15th February 1973
A modern tale of rural life in Telangana; quirky colours everywhere, men in lungis enjoying a paan, woman adorning printed sarees carrying steel tiffin boxes, coin purses on their hips and red bindis on their foreheads. Kandi Narsimlu has observed that modernity has reached villages too and is committed to documenting the everyday life and culture of his family and village and the cultural shifts through his figurative paintings in brilliant hues. His paintings are inspired by the urgency to keep his community’s culture alive. One sees hints of what the culture was and the metamorphosis it has undergone in many of his paintings, subtly highlighting the changes in the rural milieu owing to development. Evocative faces from rural Telangana shine forth from his paintings and reflect emotion, tradition and a lifestyle unique to that region. The distinctive faces showcase peace and tolerance while maintaining a mysterious charm. And yet, the signature presence of the three vessels to store water, in his paintings, is a reminder to himself of his humble beginnings and a tribute to the village where he comes from. Apart from acrylic paintings, he is now experimenting with fiberglass sculptures that are far from unforgettable with their long necks and expressive eyes.
