About Anuradha Thakur
Born on 26th October 1960
The women in Anuradha Thakur's portraits draw their influence from the tribal women of Adivasis wandering in the deep forests. Her vibrant and ever-so-detailed paintings are drawn into divine balance with elegant and powerful human forms that she consistently depicts with black. Anuradha Thakur spent time studying the lives of the local tribes and possesses an unconditional love for tribal lands which is evidently reflected in her work. The vibrant world of colours in her works is thanks to the inspiration she draws from the Kutch tribe. The textures in her paintings are created by thin black lines that add detail and depth. The signature use of black depicts the bold, vibrant tapestry of tribal life. She finds the tribal people honest, content and peaceful, and would want to find a way to make these qualities stand out in a subtle way; through the use of a soft black. Her works carry an earthiness, the joy of togetherness, a sense of community, and the vibrancy of simple pleasures. Her extraordinary approach to art has made her successful in taking her work to places including the United Nations and the Prime Minister’s Office.
