About Kandan G
Kandan's recent body of work is a testimonial to the visible and invisible realities of the everyday world. Often, the appearance of reality in the form of landscapes, cityscapes, buildings, houses, huts, and other spaces of humanity unfolds in a quite distinctive manner. However, it also witnesses the untold story of human catastrophes. The modern industrial revolution has brought a drastic transformation in human lifestyle and everyday spaces. Specifically, the built spaces of modernity and the late 20th century represent the urban traffic and complexities of spaces themselves, where human habitation is a very integral part. More often, the spaces of the human environment are designed incorporating accidentally available negative spaces. These spaces represent the intricacies of human life in the urban landscape.
Kandan has made recent observations of the visual spectacle of urbanization into various abstract synopses of colors, shapes, and forms. Sometimes, a semi-figurative closeness to reality moves towards sudden collision. The application of strokes projects the energetic speed and movement, cutting across the edge of organic forms, and distorting the similarities of the known world and reality. This moment of painterly spontaneity poses the holistic experience of the artist's self-experience of reality. In the very process of this artistic journey, Kandan re-images the 3-dimensional known world into pure flat shapes. Looking at the entire body of work once again, the artist attempts to deconstruct the development of world reality.
