About Bhaskar Lahiri

The ancient civilisations of the world, especially Indian civilisation has enchanted me and I try to manifest my deep seated respect for it by painting. In my artwork, I try to bridge the gap between Indian philosophy, history, religion, folk culture, literature and the present times. Most people try very hard to look for a source to create art. I have never felt that need as West Bengal, my home state always has something fascinating, which drives me to paint about its colourful folk art. Every painting that I have made is like a gratitude to the dew and dust that adorns the villages which keeps the age old tradition of folk art alive in Bengal.

Artist Bhaskar Lahiri earned his diploma in Fine Arts from Indian College of Art & Draftsmanship, Kolkata in 1986. Most artists try very hard to look for an inspiration to paint but he has never felt that need as his home state, West Bengal has a fascinating and colourful folk art. Bhaskar draws inspiration from there and lets his paintings give a contemporary view of the Bengal he loves. He has exhibited his paintings in group shows across Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai and his paintings are in the private collection of art connoisseurs from Dubai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
