About Aditya Shirke

Aditya’s concerns as an artist stem from a set of dualities or binary oppositions that can be located within a number of different cultural and spiritual contexts. To this end the work he has produced thus far has sought to interrogate these established systems of thought through the medium of painting. In addition, Aditya’s practice is cognisant of but not beholden to the scepticism that poststructuralism has brought to bear upon the work of art and specifically the question of whether the work of art can embody unified meaning. The suite of works that are mainly presented on the platform are from my series on horses.Apart from the obvious visceral quality of the horse, the primary concern with the execution of these works is to bring within a single visual format two historically different moments in terms of style and medium. Thus the traditional medium of oils has been used along side the more contemporary medium of acrylics.Also in terms of style there is an element of the traditional naturalistic bravura juxtaposed with the bright flat pop colours. I term it as 'painterly pop'.

Aditya Shirke is the second Indian artist who has been selected for the Master of Art program in drawing at Camberwell College, London. He completed G.D Arts in drawing and painting from a well-known institution in Pune. His mesmerizing paintings can be seen enhancing the charms and ambience of various swanky hotels like The Leela hotel, Mumbai, as well as adorning the walls of the houses in New York. He has brought forward his artistic skills at various demonstrations and shows nationwide and other parts of the world.
